McKenna's Olympic setback
Lesley McKenna speaks to BBC Sport Online about her Winter Olympics preparations
Shoulder strain fears for Lesley McKenna
In the first of her Winter Olympics columns for BBC Sport Online, British Olympic snowboarder Lesley McKenna reveals worrying news.

Well, just weeks to go before the big event - I can't say that I'm nervous, but I am unfortunately injured.

It's not earth-shattering because it's just a muscle injury to the shoulder.

It happened before the last World Cup event. I was in a bad shape, but at least I didn't dislocate it.

I need to see the physio every day for a week, before leaving for America, so hopefully it will be all right before I get there.

With muscle injuries you don't really know how long it will take to heal, but I'm predicting somewhere between a few days and a couple of weeks.

Snowboarding's rise

But enough of the bad news. My World Cup season has been going brilliantly.

I've had a really good start and ironically I probably had my best day of the season before I crashed.

It was a shame I didn't get to compete in the competiton in the end.

I feel pretty confident though, because I was fourth in the event the Americans used to choose their Olympic team last year and I then won the Whistler competition over there.

I am delighted at what myself and team-mate Melanie Leando have achieved over the past few seasons.

We've had great results between us, but if you put it into perspective, five years ago snowboarding in Britain wasn't recognised as a sport.

It's a shame that Melanie got injured because she was riding high.

I just hope that I feel 100% before the start of the Games, because this just may be my year.
