![]() Kari wins full set
![]()
Finland's Tanja Kari completed a clean sweep of the individual cross-country races on the last day of the Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City.
Kari won the long distance event and then went on to help her team win bronze in the relay. Marjorie van de Bunt of Holland came second and Norway's Siw Vestengen third. Kari had said that this would be her last appearance in a Winter Paralympics. She won gold at the 1988 Innsbruck Games and has gone on to add 10 more gold medals, a silver and a bronze. Erik-Nils Ulset of Norway won the men's event, with Steve Cook of the USA in second and Germany's Josef Giesen in third. The games closed in spectacular style. Competitors, coaches and spectators enjoyed fireworks, singing and dancing and a video tribute on a huge screen at the closing ceremony.
