Princess visits British athletes
By BBC Sport Online's Anna Thompson with Team GB
The Princess Royal has been visiting the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
She has spent two days in Utah, visiting Team GB and attending Olympic events.
Princess Anne enjoyed a traditional tour of the Olympic Village, pausing to watch Italian dance group Flock of Gulls.
The Princess Royal, who is now returning home to Britain to attend the funeral on Friday of her aunt Princess Margaret, then had dinner with British Olympic Association dignitaries.
There she met GB luger Mark Hatton and ski jumper Glynn Pedersen.
Hatton, who broke two British records on his way to 25th in the men's luge, told BBC Sport Online: "I have never met a member of Royalty before so I did not know what to expect.
"But Princess Anne was really down to earth and was a nice lady. She seemed really interested in what I had to say."
The Princess Royal is president of the BOA, a member of the International Olympic Committee and a former Olympian herself.
A spokesman for the BOA said she had honoured a long-standing engagement to see the athletes.
He said: "We gave our sympathies to the Princess at this sad time.
"We are grateful that she was still able to honour her commitment to us."
