Goodbye Calgary, hello Salt Lake

GB men's bobsledder Marcus Adam tells BBC Sport Online how preparations for his event at the weekend have been going and his thoughts on arriving at Salt Lake City from his holding camp.

Well, I've just arrived in Salt Lake City with Colin Bryce, after some intensive training in Calgary.

I think the bobsledder boys have been one of the last set of athletes to leave, although the four-man team are still in Canada.

Anyway, the training's been pretty intense and in all honesty it would have been nice if we had an extra week to prepare more, ahead of my race at the weekend.

Basically, I've been working a lot on the push off at the start, improving my technique and also weights in the gym - the usual training stuff.

Raising the roof

It's been very strange coming here. The security is very intense.

There are loads of armed guards and policemen on the street.

But I suppose when you consider what has happened in recent months, especially with 11 September, it's understandable.

I miss home quite a lot, but I've told everybody back in Britain to watch my runs.

I rang my mum to tell her to stay awake, I think she's already missed me a couple of times when I've been on television.

And I also know for sure that the boys at my halls of residence in Holloway, London will be watching - I'm sure they will raise the roof if we put on a good performance.

Anyway I'll try and take in some of the action between now and the weekend.
