Perfection: Torvill and Dean dance the Bolero
One half of Britain's most successful ice-dance team ever, was born in 1957.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won the world title four years in succession from 1981.

At the1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics, they famously claimed gold.

Their interpretation of Ravel's Bolero earned them an unprecedented Olympic distinction of nine perfect 6.0 marks for artistic impression.

An additional three 6.0 marks were awarded for technical merit

The pair also grabbed a bronze 10 years later at the Games in Lillehammar when they returned to the competition circuit.

Jayne was made an MBE for services to ice skating.

Inspirational

She was an accomplished solo and pairs skater, a junior and senior gold medallist with her previous partner, Michael Hutchinson.

In 1975, Jayne started working together with Christopher.

Jayne once said that when she started skating, she could skate forward pretty well, but the rest was more difficult, and she fell a lot.

Her love of skating was supported with an innate discipline and many hours of hard work.

And she persevered to become one of the sport's leading lights and helping to change it forever

In 1993, Jayne and Christopher were named the BBC Sports Team of the Year, and the following year won BBC Sports Personalities of the Year.
