Year in Review 2010
2010 was a year that was colder, drier and sunnier than average in most areas. This was due to prolonged periods of blocked weather patterns and an absence of westerly airstreams.
2010 was ranked the 12th coldest year in the previous one hundred years. The year both began and ended with widespread and disruptive snowfalls. December was recorded as one of the coldest calendar months in the last 100 years. It was the coldest year since 1919 in Scotland and Northern Ireland for mean minimum temperatures. 2010 was also the driest year since 2003, and the 10th driest year since 1910. The period January to June was particularly dry. 2010 was a sunny year across the UK. It was provisionally ranked 9th sunniest in a series from 1929.
