Kennedy's '100% backing' for German
![]() Charles Kennedy is targetting the student vote
Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy, who is making his second campaign visit to Wales on Tuesday, has given Assembly Deputy First Minister Mike German his full backing.
The police are to be sent a copy of the controversial auditors report into the affairs of the European Unit of the Welsh exams board, the WJEC. when Mr German was managing the unit.
There have been repeated calls for Mr German to step down, and Rhodri Morgan, the First Minister is to make a statement in the Welsh Assembly later on Tuesday. Mr Kennedy, speaking in London , said he was "100% trusting of Mr German" but added that it would be inappropriate to comment on the allegations made against him. Mr Kennedy, who made a brief stopover at Cardiff International Airport during the campaign's opening week, will be launching his party's student manifesto in Cardiff later. The Liberal Democrats, whose manifesto includes a pledge to scrap tuition fees, are fighting hard to capture the seat of Cardiff Central from Labour which contains most of the student accommodation in the city. In the last decade the parliamentaty seat has been held by both Labour and the Conservatives, while the Liberal Democrats triumphed at the National Assembly elections. Mr Kennedy will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor Sir Paddy Ashdown who spoke to Cardiff students last week. Meanwhile, in London, Jenny Randerson, the Liberal Democrat Culture Minister in the Welsh Assembly's coalition administration will talk of the success of power sharing governments. The Liberal Democrats will be hoping the continuing row involving the Deputy First Minister in the Assembly, Mike German, which is overshadowing their campaigning in Wales, will subside.
