The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has appointed Gerard Lyons, a former chief economist at Standard Chartered, as his new economic adviser.

Mr Lyons told Today programme business presenter Lesley Curwen that the mayor "wants to be very well positioned on both economic and financial issues for London".

He added that "the key issue is to make sure that London positions itself in having more housing, more jobs, more office space."
