More than half (55%) of teachers polled by YouGov for the National Union of Teachers (NUT) described their morale as low or very low.

"Teachers want to be trusted... and be able to engage with school improvement themselves," says general secretary of the NUT Christine Blower.

"Teachers think the government is taking education in the wrong direction, which is affecting how they feel about their job."

And more than three quarters of those who took part, believe what the coalition is doing to education in England will have a negative effect.
