Prof Clive Upton: Accents and dialects 'on the increase'

Poet Benjamin Zephaniah has a great love for the English language, including its many accents and dialects across the country.

"Variety [of accents] is on the increase," says Professor Clive Upton. "I think people now feel pretty well freed-up to use their local speech in the right situations."

"Dialect is a signal of belonging. That's the big thing, I think."
