The Christmas jumper's 'garish' comeback

The novelty Christmas jumper was for years seen as a cringe-worthy present, but now it seems that festive jumpers have become a fashion must-have.

The supermarket Asda says it has sold over 10,000 festive knits and High Street fashion retailer New Look says that it sold one every minute during its busiest week.

Justine Picardie, editor in chief of Harpers Bazaar, and Hilary Alexander, fashion consultant, discussed if their comeback is down to Sarah Lund's now famous woolly jumpers from the crime series The Killing, or in the age of austerity if we have pulled out our jumpers for a bit of festive cheer.

Ms Picardie told Today presenter James Naughtie that "I was surprised to see them come back in again."

"I noticed Samantha Cameron is a 'The Killing' style jumper," she added.
