Feldman: 'Too late to remove guns from US'

President Obama has said the US must do more to protect its children after the shootings in Newtown in the state of Connecticut.

He spoke at an inter-faith service in the town on Sunday.

If Obama attempts to tackle America's gun culture, he will meet a great deal of opposition.

Richard Feldman, President of the Independent Firearm Owners Association, told the Today programme: "The problem is whose hands the guns are in.

"This particular case, and all the other mass shootings, involved mentally deranged individuals. We have a failed mental health system now in this country.

"Having a ban isn't going to make the very people we would like to prevent from having them, having them. They're already owned by tens of millions of people."
