The Syrian information minister Omran al Zohbi says President Assad's regime will "win the battle for Damascus" in three to four days.

Reports have said that the fighting has been much worse in the capital in the past few weeks.

The Today programme spoke to Susan and Lena, both opposed to the Assad regime and living in different areas of Damascus, they explained what life is like there: "In the past few days we have been witnessing a huge military deployment."

"We can see snipers on rooftops," she added

Speaking from Damascus, the BBC's Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen told Today programme presenter Sarah Montague that, "I have been in cites which have changed hands while I have been in them - and this is not how it feels."
