Some countries are growing faster than their insurance policies can cover.

According to Lloyd's of London, 17 fast-growing countries are severely exposed to catastrophic events and underinsured by around £100 billion.

Richard Ward, Chief Executive of Lloyd's, told the Today programme: "There is significant exposure around the globe to natural catastrophes. The frequency and severity does seem to be increasing."

"It's important that all UK home owners have access to insurance to protect their properties. I'm hoping that a solution will be reached shortly."
