Naughtie in India: Rich vs Poor

What happens to India's poor as the country gets richer?

Across India 50 per cent of households take in less than £800 per year from work; a quarter of the population of 1.2bn earns less than 40 pence per day.

When children on a political rally were asked what they wanted, one child simply replied "clean water, clean water".

Healthcare for the poor in the country is also struggling: "Your beds are full... you have no time to really diagnose [cancers] early, provide better results, look at quality," warned Dr Samir Kohl, who works with the charity Save the Children.

"For about 1.2bn people there are just 280 radiation machines."
