Jessica Herrin is Chief Executive and founder of Stella and Dot, a jewellery line with an army of franchise-type stylists who scour homes and offices selling their products. Still in her 30s, she's already something of a veteran of the last dot-com boom and bust, having founded and then successfully sold the world's leading wedding website.
A "proud survivor" of many dot-com fatalities, Herrin's philosophy is to keep a grip on her firm. "I can run the business for the benefits of our stylists, not for the analysts in the street," she told the Today programme's Simon Jack.
"Mobile commerce is exploding," she continued. As CEO of a social-selling company, she's excited by the concept of new technologies and the "blended" benefits they can bring.
But while Stella and Dot is just eight years old and one of America's fastest growing companies, she still maintains a healthy relationship with her close ones.
"Work balance to me doesn't mean working part time, it means working on your own time," she stressed. And speaking of other mothers? "They just need to do it on their own schedule".
"I'm a 'mom, working', not a 'working mom'."
