More than 50 years have passed since Alan Sillitoe's film Saturday Night and Sunday Morning was released, and today an exhibition inspired by the film opens in Nottingham to mark the occasion.

"Alan grew up in an environment that was not only very tightly packed with people, but was definitely a community," his son David told our arts correspondent, Rebecca Jones

"The world portrayed in that film so elequently has obviously completely gone. Now one looks around and it all seems rather dull."
