Egypt 'seeks Gaza end game'

Egypt is sending its Prime Minister Hisham Qandil to Gaza in a show of support to the people of Gaza.

The new democratic Egyptian government will listen to the popular view in Egypt, in a way that the ousted president Mubarak did not have to.

Rosemary Hollis, professor of Middle Eastern studies at City University, explained how Egypt will position itself under the new democratic leadership.

Ms Hollis told Today presenter Evan Davis that for the Egyptian delegation it is about "the end game".

"Hamas... would love the Egyptians to come up with something that can prevent this from escalating into a much more devastating war," she added.
