The plight of regional theatres

Danny Boyle and Sir Nicholas Hytner are fronting a campaign on the plight of regional theatres today.

The BBC's arts editor Will Gompertz explained that it is not an institution that finds radical change easy.

Director of Mute Records Andrew King spoke of a "subtle divide" in Arts Council funding: "The people who are handing out the grants …want to get some level of status out of it.

"They want to enable an Alan Bennett play… they don't want to enable a rock band from Rochdale."
