Three of Britain's biggest water companies paid little or no tax on their profits, a British newspaper has disclosed.
Some of the world's richest and mightiest international companies - including Google, Starbucks and Amazon - have also faced controversy over tax payments in recent months. Bosses from those companies will appear before a committee of MPs in an attempt to justify that.
Speaking to the Today programme, Lord Myners - the former Financial Services Secretary - said: "It's about time accountants recognise that they have a social responsibility to ensure that companies make a fair contribution to taxes in the countries where their activities lie."
