What next for the Republicans?

US President Obama has been elected to a second term.

Reporting from Washington DC, the Today programme's Jim Naughtie asks what now for the Republicans, and what will a renewed mandate allow Obama to do?

Jonathan Rauch, from the Brookings Institution, explained that "there is no going back" on the social change has been seen in America.

"Social change happens at its own speed… and what's happened here is politics catching up with it."
