The Today business presenter Simon Jack met with Bill Grimsey, as a retail boss of over 40 years' experience and the the former head of Focus/Wickes and the former Cchief executive of Iceland.

Mr Grimsey, who has now written a book about the death of the High Street called Sold Out, said that it is "too late" for that form of traditional retailing.

"Customers have voted with their feet," he explained.

"They want convenience and low prices… online shopping is the future."
