In the run-up to The Man Booker prize announcement the Today programme is profiling all six shortlisted authors and their books.
The BBC's arts correspondent Rebecca Jones spoke to Deborah Levy about her book Swimming Home, a book set around a pool at a house in the South of France.
She described how swimming was the inspiration for her book: "I do some of my best unconscious thinking in the pool."
"My book is about madness", she explained, and a book about madness has to be "as enjoyable as possible."
