Toyota is recalling more than seven million vehicles worldwide because of a fault with their electric window switches.
Scott Brownlee of Toyota UK explained to Today presenter Sarah Montague that the problem is with a "sticking" of the switch.
Mr Brownlee clarified the term "fire risk" that was used in Toyota's press release, saying that engineers have "tested the switch and cannot replicate a fire as such".
"In extreme cases" he explained, "the switch mechanism becomes melted or distorted".
Toyota say they will contact owners of three models, the Rav 4, Auris and Yaris registered between September 2006 and December 2008.
