Michael Pederson is believed to have killed his son who was seven, and his daughter who was six, then himself over weekend, in a remote and otherwise peaceful corner of Hampshire.

Sarah Heatley whose estranged husband killed their two children, Nina who was four and Jack who was three, in 1994 explained how the murders had taken place and that he went to "great lengths to make sure that killing the children would… cause me the most harm for the rest of my life".

And told Today presenter Justin Webb that it was "difficult to comprehend" that anyone could kill their own children.

"I thought he was capable of something bad."
