One of the keys to Barack Obama's victory in 2008 was his strong support among voters of Hispanic descent. In this year's American presidential election both he and his challenger Mitt Romney have been doing their best to secure the Hispanic vote.
But in the longer term the idea of an outreach to Hispanic people is going to seem very quaint - they are likely to be in the driving seat.
