Paul Johnson: Universal credit will 'simplify' welfare

Paul Johnson, the director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, has told the Today programme that the government's proposed welfare reforms will make the benefits system "simplified and integrated".

Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith is planning to scrap income support, job-seekers' allowance, housing benefit and the big tax credits and introduce a new universal credit to replace them all.
