Tony Blair, former prime minister and currently Middle East "quartet" representative, said it would be "very tragic if we left sight of what is happening in Syria at the moment".
He told the Today programme that he would be advocating "ramping up where we are" in the country.
His comments come as aerial bombardments continue on a daily basis in Syria, in particular in the northern city of Aleppo.
