What sort of industrial landscape do we want to see in the UK in 20 years' time?

The Business Secretary will address this question in a speech later today where he will set out the government's industrial strategy.

Speaking to the Today programme, Vince Cable said that "pure laissez-faire" is not the right way of dealing with the industrial landscape.

"We do believe in getting behind our success stories," he added.

He explained that has been discussing plans for a state-sponsored bank with the chancellor.

And Mr Cable said he believed there is a role for an institution that can promote what he calls "gazelles" or "rapid-growth success stories".
