The government is launching a suicide prevention strategy in England today.
Liberal Democrat MP Norman Lamb, the minister behind the scheme, explains that suicide rates have fallen in places where guidance based on evidence has been implemented.
He told the Today programme that it is "absolutely critical" to get the message out to the key people, and provide "critical training" to GPs.
"If we take the view than one suicide is one too many, and follow the evidence, then we can really make a difference," he said.
