Parliament reconvenes this week amidst much talk as to how the Coalition can kick-start the moribund economy and launch policies which promote growth.

Conservative MP Mark Pritchard, believes "the state is still far too big and public spending far too high."

"In a recession there is justification for state intervention... but real sustainable growth will only come from the private sector," he told the Today programme.

Tim Farron, a Liberal Democrat MP, said the big problem in the economy at the momet is a "lack of demand".

"Those who are wealthiest should be paying the largest share," he told John Humphrys and said that the government should increase taxes where they can.
