Retail bonds 'safer than shares'

With stock markets unpredictable, and returns from cash deposits almost non-existent, investors and savers are turning to lending money directly to companies via so-called "retail bonds".

Richard Tice, chief executive of property investment firm CLS Holdings, the latest company to adopt the system, told the Today programme that they provide a "higher safer income than you get from owning stocks and shares".
