The United Nations observer mission in Syria has formally ended. Lakhdar Brahimi, who has replaced Kofi Annan in charge of trying to bring the warring parties together, told the Today programme that he is committed to finding a solution.
He refused to comment on whether he wanted President Bashar al-Assad to step down.
"I'm a mediator... a mediator has to speak to everybody," he said.
