British athletes won medals by the dozen and the London 2012 Games were judged a major success but that could be bad news for comedians on stage at the Edinburgh Festival - who are now short of losers to laugh at.
Comedian and podcaster Andy Zaltzman said "we were barely Britain any more" and the successes have been an "unmitigated disaster for the nation comedically", but there was still the state of the railways to laugh about.
He spoke to Sarah Montague, with the writer and broadcaster Sarfraz Manzoor who is performing a one-man show at the Fringe, about where this leaves comedy and pride in Britain.
