David Cameron is set to announce today that competitive sport will be at the heart of a new primary school curriculum in England.
Philip Collins, who writes for the Times and used to work in Downing Street for Tony Blair, told the Today programme that "one of the things that some sports really contribute more than others is building character and life skills for the future".
Damian Hinds, Conservative MP for East Hampshire, believes the very idea that you can have competitive sport for everybody "simply doesn't make sense"..
He told Evan Davis that there are plenty of other activities "for people who loath PE".
