China's rare earth exchange will 'formalise' production

China, the world's largest producer of rare earth, is about to launch the world's first trading platform for the minerals.

Carole Ferguson, an analyst with Fairfax bank, believes the exchange may be a way of "formalising and controlling" what China are doing - rather than loosening its grip on the monopoly - and it will give more "transparency and visibility" to the market.
