Parts of Tottenham in north London were badly hit by riot disturbances 12 months ago, and Haringey Council is to announce plans to improve housing, shopping and leisure to regenerate the area.
Mike Thomson found not everyone was looking forward to more chain stores coming, with a prediction of "disharmony, discord and discomfort" unless there were small shops to give the area its own identity.
But there are opposing views saying bigger shops mean lower prices, and more jobs, and some still miss Marks and Spencer since it left the area.
