England is neglecting its brightest children, leaving them lagging far behind youngsters overseas, new research from the Sutton Trust suggests.
Anna Smith, head of curriculum at Parkside Federation comprehensive school, believes part of the issue could be that England is focusing too much on "national benchmarking".
Christine Blower, chief executive of the NUT, told the Today programme that there needs to be a focus on making sure "every child is able to develop mathematically... as well as they possibly can."
