Dairy price cuts enrage farmers

Forty percent of small dairy farmers have gone out of business in the past 10 years. After the last price cut in dairy prices in the spring, they say they have had enough. David Handley from the organisation Farmers for Action told Farming Today, "we are in desperation street".

"Farmers are absolutely desperate.... [they' re in tears], says dairy industry analyst Ian Potter, "no-one can run a business losing 5 or 6p a litre".

Peter Kendall, president of the National Farming Union, agrees: "These guys are at the end of their tether."
