Single exam board 'sensible'

The government is reportedly planning to do away with GCSEs in England and replace them with O-level style exams.

Russell Hobby, General Secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers, told the Today programme that the idea of a single exam board was "sensible".

But he warned that a return to a two-tier exam system - as was the case with O-levels and CSEs - "doesn't sound like a good step forward".
