Sir Terry Leahy, the man who turned Tesco into the world's third-largest retailer, told the The Today programme's Simon Jack that it's very common for people from poor backgrounds to have a "degree of insecurity". "What motivates you is to not fail", he said.
The former chief executive, who has just published a book called Management, believes you can't be in business and "leave morality at the door".
"Those morals should guide the strategy and behaviour of the business", he told the programme.
