Former prime minister Gordon Brown has appeared before the Leveson Inquiry into press standards.

Political editor Nick Robinson said every emotion was there in Gordon Brown's performance, "ranging from anguish to anger...but also defiance and denial".

"Jaws hit the floor" in the political press, he said, when Mr Brown denied he had authorised his aides to brief against Tony Blair.

"It captured how awful the former PM's relationship with the press was," he told the Today programme.
