An 83-year-old man has become the oldest person to donate a kidney in the UK.

Nicholas Crace is one of only 100 people in the UK who have made an altruistic donation, meaning he will probably never meet the recipient of his kidney.

Doctors performed "tests of every sort" on Mr Crace before they gave the operation the go-ahead.

"It turned out that I had what they called Formula One kidneys," he said.
