Sir Mervyn King: 'We were late to the game'

The Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Mervyn King, has said that there was no sign that the UK economy was growing too fast before the financial crisis, but rather that the balance of the economy was unsustainable.

Speaking to Evan Davis following his Today Lecture, he said the bank was "late to the game" in understanding the scale of the fragilities of the banking system. "But we were in good company," he said.
