Should we use more 'grey water'?

Should we be using waste water rather than drinking water for washing up and flushing the loo?

Oliver Kopsch, of consultants DWC Water, says that in Germany there haven't been any failures with grey water recycling, the term given to water originating from the shower and bath. People are saving "plenty" of money by recycling water, he says.

Nicci Russell, of Waterwise UK, believes it is a great idea for office buildings and new build homes but the UK is not there yet for "retro-fitting" water recycling.

Until then, they would not advise using bath water for washing machines and dishwashers, she adds, just for flushing the toilet.
