Murdoch: Was 'fit and proper' discussed by committee?

Did the Culture Media and Sport select committee discuss whether Rupert Murdoch was a fit and proper person to run News International?

Committee member Paul Farrely MP told the Today programme that fellow member Louise Mensch MP was "simply wrong" to say on Newsnight that the amendment had not been discussed.

The committee split along party lines in its endorsement of the amendment.

Dr Tony Wright, chair of the Public Administration Committee, says it is "absolutely crucial" that parliamentary select committees do not split on partisan lines, which would be a "kiss of death" for the system if it continues.

It would be "very simple" to have found a form of words to keep the committee together over the fit and proper person test, Dr Wright believes.
