Most people work on the assumption that women outlive men. But new research suggests that gap is closing and by 2030, 30-year-old men will have the same life expectancy as women of the same age.
Les Mayhew, professor of Statistics at Cass Business School told the Today programme's John Humphrys that changes in smoking habits and heavy industrial work are the reasons for the change.
