Eight Metropolitan Police officers and another member of staff have been suspended while the Independent Police Complaints Commission investigates complaints of racism against the force. Another 12 officers are also being investigated. Dr Richard Stone, who was a member of the Stephen Lawrence inquiry has penned an open letter to the Met Police chief commissioner, calling on him to show leadership and suggesting that that is what has been missing all along.
