Friends and relatives of people suffering in Syria and who are fighting the regime have been protesting outside the Syrian Embassy in London.
Today reporter Nicola Stanbridge went to talk to some of them.
An the BBC's middle east editor Jeremy Bowen points out that from President Assad's point of view things are "looking pretty good" at the moment. International diplomacy as failed thus far, he explains, and his regime seems to have a sense of "impunity".
