What is the cause of deaths in winter?

A cold snap has hit the UK which is particularly dangerous for older people.

Claudia Wells, head of Mortality Analysis at the Office for National Statistics, explains the winter mortality figures.

"Exceptionally cold weather is associated with increased deaths," she says.
